The info below was sent home on a white paper today!
Please read it if you haven't already.
TRANSPORTATION:
BUS
All runners who indicated they need a spot on the BUS are asked to arrive at school no later than 8:50am, on Thursday, October 13. In the big gym,
they will check in with their coaches, and settle in to wait to be loaded on the bus. The bus will depart
Clairlea at approximately 9:15am and will arrive at Thompson Park by approx 9:40am. The first
race (gr.3 boys) is scheduled for 10:30.
VOLUNTEER DRIVERS
Thank you to all those who volunteered to drive students to and from the meet. If you have NOT been
contacted, we will not be needing your services. Volunteer drivers are asked to come to the big
gym by 9am. We will depart for Thompson park with our car loads once the bus is on it’s way.
There are 2 entrances to Thompson Parks Parking lots. It will be best to park in the 2nd further
lot from Lawrence Ave., as it is closest to our Clairlea Tent...and the washrooms!
RUNNERS with PARENTS
Runners who are going to and from the park with their parents only are asked to arrive at the park
at least 45 min before their race time. When arriving at the park, they will need to head to our Clairlea
tent(s) closer to the finish line, and check in with the coaches to obtain their time-chipped bib and Clairlea
wear. Runners with parents are welcome to stay the whole day to support the team, however,
families wishing to get their child back to school may do so. - PLEASE let your coaches know
when students are leaving the park and be sure to return their Clairlea wear. If you do not plan to send your child back to school and you’d like to keep them for the day,
PLEASE call the school and advise the office.
CLOTHING + Spirit Wear
Please keep a watch on the weather and dress appropriately for the day. Dressing in layers is encouraged. BRING EXTRA SOCKS as the grass will be wet. If there is rain in the forecast, students who have rain boots are encouraged to
wear them and pack their runners. If boots are not an option, perhaps consider bringing an extra pair of runners, if possible. Maybe consider an umbrella!!
Those who did not order cross-country t-shirts or spirit wear will be offered an alternative jersey or
Clairlea tee. If students have Clairlea spirit wear from former years, they are invited to wear it!
FOOD
Students need to pack a healthy, litterless lunch. They are encouraged to have a nice filling breakfast as
well. Don’t forget to label your water bottle!
AT THE PARK
Our tent(s) will be situated closer to the finish line. There will be grass space around us where students
will hang out during the day. A selection of sports equipment will be brought to the park but students are
reminded that this is a long day for most and need to be prepared to fill their time with activities that
enable them to represent Clairlea in a positive light. Students who behave in a manner that does not
respect our Clairlea code of conduct may be pulled from the day and transported back to school. To help
pass the time, students are invited to bring activities like cards, writing/colouring tools, books, etc.
RETURNING TO SCHOOL
Should the races remain on schedule, all runners needing a spot on the bus in grades 3-6 will be
boarding by 1:40pm. We will monitor the grade 7 races to see whether they will need to be escorted back in carloads.
Grade 7/8 runners have been assigned a seat in a parent volunteer vehicle, with the last runners
returning to Clairlea by 3:30pm.
